The Department of Otolaryngology of Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Capital Medical University was founded in 1971. It is one of the earliest units in China to establish the Department of Otolaryngology of traditional Chinese medicine. After generations of unremitting efforts, the discipline construction has made great long-term progress, forming a characteristic specialty that takes the characteristic technique of "Xujiang Xie's Laryngeal Department"-laryngeal needle and laryngeal medicine-as inheritance characteristics, emphasizes both traditional Chinese and Western medicine, and combines internal and external treatment, inventing "Mixture for Clearing Liver and Improving Listening", "Erjing Powder", "Stopping Bleeding Powder" and other preparations made by the hospital, which are widely used in clinical practice and praised by patients all over the country. Under the leadership of Professor Wang Junge, the Director of the Department, the specialty has stepped into the development track of three-level discipline. By carrying out the research on traditional Chinese and Western medicine treatment of difficulty and serious diseases in the otolaryngology, and combining the advantage of individualized treatment of Chinese medicine with the surgical technique of modern medicine, the Department of Otolaryngology with the most distinctive features of the "combination of Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine" in China was formed, possessing advanced medical equipment + the first-class surgical technique in grade-A tertiary hospital + prominent characteristics of traditional Chinese medicine. The prevention and treatment of nasal allergic diseases, deafness, vertigo, tinnitus, chronic throat diseases, head and neck tumors, perioperative period Chinese Medicine adjuvant treatment of traditional Chinese medicine have reached the domestic advanced level. Now the Department of Otolaryngology is "Beijing Diagnosis and Treatment Center of Xujiang Xie's Ophthalmology and Otorhinolaryngology", and it is the hospital-level key discipline and the unit of Chairman of Committee of Otorhinolaryngology Professional Committee of Beijing Association of Chinese Medicine. Since 2016, the DRG and CMI of Department of Otolaryngology has being ranked first in the Otorhinolaryngology among traditional Chinese hospital in Beijing.
