Lumbar disc protrusion is a series of symptoms and signs caused by the rupture of fibrous ring of lumbar disc and the compression to one or both sides of lumbosacral nerve from protruding of nucleus pulposus. The disease is closely related to the vast majority of sciatica and lumbago and leg pain, and can cause secondary lumbar spinal stenosis.

Treatment methods include:

1. Conservative treatment: (1) stay in bed; (2) wear waist wrap in acute stage; (3) massage treatment; (4) physical therapy; (5) traction therapy; (6) acupuncture treatment; (7) minimally invasive needle therapy such as stiletto needle and needle-knife; (8) functional exercise therapy; (9) Medical treatment.

2. Surgical treatment:

(1) Interventional therapy: there are mainly Chemonucleolysis or low-temperature plasma radiofrequency ablation.

(2) Minimally invasive surgery: mainly divided into posterior endoscopic discectomy (MED) and percutaneous endoscopic discectomy (PELD).

(3) Open surgery: the traditional posterior lumbar discectomy is still the most commonly used and effective method.
