Stroke, commonly known as "apoplexy", is characterized by high morbidity, mortality and disability. Department of Acupuncture took the lead in establishing "TCM Stroke Unit" with outstanding acupuncture characteristics in 2001, formed a continuous comprehensive TCM diagnosis and treatment unit model from critical care to convalescence rehabilitation of apoplexy, carried out the interventional diagnosis and treatment of cerebrovascular diseases in an all-round way, was able to be found on the first aid map of stroke in Beijing, and was listed officially as "Stroke Center" in our hospital.

At present, the department has carried out a lot of diagnosis and treatment contents including hyperearly arteriovenous thrombolysis in stroke, mechanical thrombectomy, minimally invasive aspiration of intracerebral hemorrhage, comprehensive treatment with acupuncture characteristics in acute stage and convalescence stage, and management of chronic diseases after discharge. A special apoplexy desk has been set up in the outpatient department to facilitate the treatment and follow-up of apoplexy patients. Completed was the key research project of Beijing Science and Technology Commission "Study on the Clinical Efficacy Improvement System of Traditional Chinese Medicine for Apoplexy", systematically summarized were the operation standards of treatment in acute stage, acupuncture treatment in recovery stage and rehabilitation treatment in sequelae stage; the diagnosis and treatment program highlights the characteristic techniques of famous acupuncture experts such as Golden Needle Wang Leting and Master of Traditional Chinese He Puren, focuses on improving the quality of life of the patients, and especially effective in the common complications such as limb spasm, urination disorder, constipation, shoulder pain and swallowing disorder after stroke.
