Cheng Yetian

Cheng Yetian (1911 - 1991), was born in Gaoyang County, Hebei Province. As a child, he studied medicine with his father at home and served as a doctor for many years. He began to practice as a doctor in Beijing in 1936. He was good at orthopedic massage in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), good at calligraphy and making good friends, and his friends covered the circle of literature and art. He was a health care doctor for Mr. Cheng Yanqiu and provided orthopedic services for stage workers.

In 1958, he was transferred to Beijing Hospital of TCM as chief orthopedic physician. In 1978, he was identified as the priority academic experiences inheritance object among the famous old doctors of TCM in Beijing. Mr. Cheng was good at traditional manipulation, especially in patella softening, cervical spondylosis, lumbar disc herniation and other curative effects, and summarized a set of lumbar treatment techniques, which are still widely used in orthopedics today. He was kind and meticulous to all of his patient, regardless of their gender and age, being deeply trusted and loved by the masses. Academically, he had no prejudice, and advocated that Chinese and modern medicine to learn from each other and make up for each other's shortcomings. He advocated using the advantages of TCM and combining modern diagnosis and treatment technology to understand and master the condition more accurately, so as to make the diagnosis clear, the treatment is appropriate and the effect is good. He had been a doctor for decades, accumulated a wealth of clinical experience, and had written many papers such as Experience in the Treatment of Patella Malacia, some of which had been included in Selected Experiences of Old TCM in Beijing. His descendants are Chen Guangping, and etc.
