The Department of Oncology of Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Capital Medical University was established in 1968. It is one of the earliest tumor hospitals of integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine in China. After nearly 50 years of unremitting efforts, the hospital has developed itself into a professional cancer prevention and treatment institution integrating medical treatment, teaching and scientific research. At present, it is a construction unit for national key clinical specialty, key discipline and key specialty of the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and main unit for key discipline and key specialty of the Beijing Municipal Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Cancer Specialty Committee of Beijing Association of Chinese Medicine.
Leading by the academic pacesetter Professor Yu Rencun, a famous expert in the integration of traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine, and the discipline leader Professor Wang Xiaomin, the Department of Oncology adheres to the development direction of the integration of traditional Chinese and Western medicine while highlighting the characteristics of traditional Chinese medicine. After many years of scientific exploration and clinical practice, a complete tumor diagnosis and treatment system of integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine has been constructed, forming unique academic characteristics and specialist advantages. The department has successively undertaken more than 50 projects at national, provincial and bureau levels, and obtained many scientific research achievements. As a doctor and master's training unit for integrated Chinese and Western medicine, our department also undertakes teaching tasks of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine and College of Traditional Chinese Medicine of Capital Medical University.
The Department of Oncology of Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine has an outpatient department, inpatient wards, minimally invasive treatment rooms, well-known TCM workstations, oncology research rooms and laboratories, and a second-class department of hematology. Annual outpatient visits exceed 90,000. There are three wards with 85 beds of various kinds, complete medical facilities and comfortable surroundings. It carries out TCM, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, molecular targeted therapy and multidisciplinary comprehensive therapy including minimally invasive treatment (intervention, ablation, etc.) of tumors, with an annual hospitalization of more than 2,800 patients. The laboratory is equipped with advanced experimental equipment, can carry out tumor-related molecular biology, cell biology and other experiments, providing strong support for clinical and scientific research.
In recent years, under the guidance of TCM syndrome differentiation and holistic concept principles, we have actively explored individualized comprehensive treatment and established a series of diagnosis and treatment standards for lung cancer, breast cancer, colorectal cancer, liver cancer, gastric cancer, pancreatic cancer, hematological diseases, external treatment of TCM, minimal invasive treatment of tumor and so on, and achieved definite results. The combination of traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine can inhibit the growth of malignant tumors, increase effect and decrease toxicity, improve the clinical symptoms, prolong the survival of patients and improve the quality of life. A series of traditional Chinese medicine preparations, such as Prescriptions for Body Consolidating and Tumor Suppression, Huayu Pill, Body Consolidating and Tumor Suppression Capsules, Xueyu Danhuang Oil, Chinese Medicine Acupoint Stickers and so on, have been developed.
