Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Capital Medical University was established in 1956. In the same year, "Arthralgia Syndrome Group" was established. It is the earliest professional medical group for rheumatism treatment in China. It has gone through more than 60 years of history. In the early stage it was under the "Department of Comprehensive Internal Medicine", gradually, it developed into the Department of Arthralgia Syndrome in 1980s and then opened its ward. In 2006, it established an independent inpatient area; in 2011, it was renamed "Department of Rheumatology".

Over the years, there have been a large number of famous physicians in the Department, such as national famous physicians Wang Weilan, Wang Dajing and Zhou Naiyu, famous rheumatologists Wang Yuming, Xie Youhong and Wang Bei, and Associate Professor Zhang Qin, the "Excellent Talent in Medical Field". In addition, it also developed a variety of well-known medicines including Qingre Yangyin Chushi Pill, Yishen Jiangu Pill, Cervical Vertebra Rehabilitation Pill, Yishen Tongdu Mixture, etc. At present, there are 18 physicians in the Department, of whom more than half have senior professional titles, and 90% present workers of our Department have doctoral or master's degrees. In recent years, more and more young and middle-aged backbone physicians in the Department have visited Peking Union Medical College Hospital, Chinese PLA General Hospital, Peking University People's Hospital and Peking University First Hospital for further study. While inheriting and carrying forward the characteristic treatment of traditional Chinese medicine, it provides a powerful medical guarantee for the treatment of difficult and critical patients with rheumatic immune diseases, and further integrates modern medicine with traditional medicine.

Through the efforts and dedication of generations of "physicians in Department of Rheumatology", now the Department has Famous Expert of TCM Wang Weilan's 3 +3 studio, National Famous Expert of TCM Zhou Naiyu Studio. In 2014, our Department was listed into the key expert department under the Beijing Municipal Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. At present, it has undertaken a number of scientific research projects at the provincial, ministerial and bureau levels. It now has become an important part of the rheumatology circle in the capital and even in the whole country, for it has formed a featured department with ankylosing spondylitis, sicca syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis, gout, psoriatic arthritis and postpartum rheumatism as the dominant diseases. The pioneering special outpatient services in the Department for rheumatoid arthritis，arthralgia，ankylosing spondylitis，，psoriatic arthritis，Sjögren's syndrome，gout，hyperuricemia，postpartum rheumatism，aphthous ulcer have provide accurate individualized treatment for rheumatisants with integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine, which is well received by patients.
