Department of Respiratory Disease of Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Capital Medical University, formerly known as Respiratory Group and Liver Disease Group, was established in 1957, is the earliest specialist department of Chinese medicine in China and a member of the Respiratory Department of Capital Medical University. In 50 years of development, the Department has trained many famous veteran doctors of TCM, such as Xu Gongyan, Cao Xiping, Wu Junyu and Lin Jiehao. The Ganmao Qingre Granule, Qingfei Pill, Zhisou Huatan Dingchuan Pill, Yangyin Yiqi Mixture, Jinhua Qinggan Granule and Wenyang Huatan Zhike Plaster produced by the Department enjoy a high reputation in Beijing.
After more than 60 years' construction, the comprehensive medical level of integrated Chinese and Western medicine in the Department of Respiratory Disease has been steadily improved. At present, it is a member of the Respiratory Department of Capital Medical University, a key specialist department of pulmonary diseases under Beijing Chinese Medicine Administration Bureau, and a training department for doctoral candidates. The Department is equipped with advanced equipment such as high-resolution spiral CT, Jaeger lung function instrument, electronic bronchoscope, thoracoscope, sleep respiration monitor, transport and invasive mechanical ventilator, bedside B-ultrasound and so on, which have outstanding effect in diagnosis and treatment of diffuse pulmonary interstitial diseases, refractory pulmonary infection, refractory cough, dyspnea and other diseases.
The Department of Respiratory Disease has a young and vigorous specialists team for respiratory and critical diseases, including 1 chief specialist, 8 chief physicians, 7 deputy chief physicians and 7 doctors with doctoral degrees or above. The Department provides the special outpatient service for persistent cough, interstitial lung disease, bronchiectasis and dyspnea, with an annual outpatient number of 120,000 patients. It also sets up a modern respiratory rehabilitation room, and its ward with 34 beds. In recent years, it has undertaken 6 projects at the national and provincial levels and won 3 awards at or above the provincial and ministerial levels.
