Department of Acupuncture Invites International Experts to Conduct Academic Exchanges

On April 17,2019, Professor Marc Fisher, the Chief Editor of STROKE magazine, and Professor Xiao Guishan, the Tenured Professor of Department of Medicine of School of Medicine of Creighton University, were invited to our department for academic exchange. Li Bin, the Director of Department of Acupuncture and Moxibustion, Liu Huilin, the Deputy Director of Department and key scientific researchers of Department attended the meeting.

Professor Fisher focused on the application of translational medicine in stroke, stressing that acupuncture is now gradually accepted by people in the West, but the mechanism of acupuncture should be better studied; Professor Xiao Guishan introduced the relationship between deuterium and metabolic diseases.

Chinese and foreign scholars discussed the topics of acupuncture research deeply from the basic research of acupuncture to the clinical diagnosis and treatment of cerebrovascular diseases, from the animal model of cerebrovascular diseases to the importance of imaging to the development of neurology.

Professor Fisher is currently Emeritus Professor of Department of Neurology of University of Massachusetts Medical School, Professor of Neurology of Harvard Medical School, Researcher of American Academy of Neurology, and Member of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of the World Stroke Organization. He is currently the Chief Editor of Stroke magazine.

Professor Xiao Guishan is an International Clinical Geneticist and Molecular Biologist, Tenured Professor of Department of Medicine of School of Medicine of Creighton University, and currently Member of American Association for Cancer Research, American Society of Human Genetics and Human Proteome Organization, and Review Expert of the Experts on Osteology Group of National Aeronautics and Space Administration.

Through the communication and exchange with the top experts in the field of neurology abroad, the vision of young doctors has been broadened, laying a solid foundation for the further study of acupuncture. (Source: Department of Acupuncture and Moxibustion)
