The Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology of Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Capital Medical University was set up shortly after the hospital was established. Through the efforts of several generations, it has developed into an integrated orthopedic model with clinical, scientific research and teaching features of traditional Chinese medicine. In recent years, the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology of Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine has made remarkable achievements in various fields by serving patients with integrated traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine methods. At present, the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology of Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine is the leader unit of key specialty of the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Orthopedics and Traumatology Branch of Beijing Association of Integrative Medicine and the Head Unit Spinal Minimally Invasive Surgery Professional Committee, as well as the research center for China-Japan Spinal Endoscopy Research.
At present, the department has 40 beds and 18 doctors, including 1 doctoral supervisors, 2 master supervisors, 5 chief physicians and 2 deputy chief physicians. The business scope of the department covers almost every part of China, with an annual outpatient volume exceeding 80,000, the annual number of operations more than 1,000, for which third and fourth-grade surgery accounted more than 95%. It has obvious characteristics and therapeutic advantages in the treatment of scapulohumeral periarthritis, knee osteoarthritis, synovitis of knee, lumbar spinal canal stenosis, lumbar disc herniation, lumbar osteoarthritis, lumbodorsal myofascitis, avascular necrosis of femoral head, ankle fracture, thoracolumbar compression fractures, lateral epicondylitis.
The Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology has several well-known experts and young and middle-aged doctors of of high competence, who hold important academic positions in academic organizations and institutions at home and abroad. Adhering to science and technology and innovation driven discipline development, the department has undertaken more than 30 projects at all levels, including the state, ministries and commissions, and attends more than 20 academic conferences at home and abroad every year. The class of National Low Temperature Plasma Plasty for Cervical Spine and Lumbar Nucleus Pulposus and the Joint Medical Salon of Orthopedics and Traumatology Department of Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine are held each year, and their academic influence is increasing. A large number of long-term basic and clinical research has established a solid theoretical basis for the prevention and treatment of orthopaedic diseases. And personalized diagnosis and treatment procedures have been carried out for orthopaedic diseases.
At present, the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology undertakes the clinical teaching tasks of Capital Medical University and Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, as well as the five-year clinical program of School of Traditional Chinese Medicine of Capital Medical University and eight-year undergraduate and master's degree program of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine. Every year, more than 10 graduate students in orthopedics and traumatology are admitted and trained. We also undertake the standardized training program for resident physicians of the National Health and Family Planning Commission.
Regarding serving patients as the core, the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology of Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine has actively engaged in the promotion of orthopaedic knowledge and new business progress through television, newspapers, radio, websites, WeChat and other platforms. We also participated in the free community medical consultation activities organized by the hospital authority and the Party branch. At the call of the hospital, we also provided support for Chinese medicine hospitals in Yanqing, Shunyi, Pinggu, and Huairou districts and the Liulimiao Township Health Center.
