Date:2019-12-29

Professor Wang Leting, chief physician of acupuncture and moxibustion department of Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, studied from Chen Suqing, a famous acupuncture and moxibustion teacher, and formally practiced medicine in 1929. He has been engaged in acupuncture and moxibustion clinic for more than 50 years. With diligence and rigorous academic attitude, he follows the good practices of ancient doctors while developing and innovating his own techniques. He is famous for being good at treating scrofula with six-inch golden acupuncture needle. Since the founding of New China, he has served the people diligently and cured a large number of patients. People have praised him as "Golden Needle Wang Leting". With great focus on a combination of theory and practice of traditional Chinese medicine, he has not only accumulated rich clinical experience, but also has developed many unique opinions in theory. After collecting and sorting systematically, we compiled his experience into a book, with a name called Wang Leting's Golden Needle.

The book is divided into four parts.

The first part is Unique Experience. This part focuses on his decades of clinical experience and understanding in acupuncture and moxibustion, which is divided into 11 topics. Among them, the six-inch golden needle is unique in the treatment of scrofula and has a very good curative effect, which is rare in China. As we sorted out these experiences, he personally demonstrated, detailed the essentials of each step to us, and even drew pictures to truly describe his acupuncture techniques. The article Five Chapters of Clinical Practices describes his unique features in a series of clinical procedures, such as insisting on detailed examination on four symptoms, accurate syndrome differentiation, acupoint selection and needle insertion, manipulation, needle retention, needle lifting and combination of needle and moxibustion. Praise to Ten Needles, Treatment and Examination of Du Meridian and Preliminary Study on the Law of Treating Paralysis and other articles highlight his academic viewpoints such as "Treating its origin, taking stomach as the first", "Treating paralysis from Du Meridian", "For treating wind illness, treat Qi first, and when Qi circulates and wind illness disappears itself". Selected Quintessence of Five Shu Points, The Unique Application of Back-Shu Point, New Version of Huatuo-Jiaji Points and other articles, which not only illustrates Wang Leting's understanding and practical application of Five Shu Points, Back-shu Points and  Huatuo-Jiaji Points, but also introduces his prescriptions such as "Twelve Needles for Hands and Feet", "Shu Points of the Five Zang Organs Used in Combination with Geshu Prescription", "Mr. Wang's Jiaji Points", "13 Needles for Du Meridian", "Ten Needles" and "Shiquan Dabu". In addition, the article has considerable clinical value for the clinical "penetrating acupuncture" and "penetrating acupoints", the use of transfusion points to simulate the composition of acupuncture prescriptions with traditional Chinese medicine, and the discussion on the treatment rules of stroke, traumatic paraplegia and spleen and stomach diseases.

The second part is Clinical Medical Records, which contains a total of 40 diseases and 95 typical medical records (including scrofula), involving internal medicine, surgery, gynecological and pediatric departments. These practical cases clearly illustrate Professor Wang Leting's practice and application of the above academic viewpoints. Judging from its exact effect, it is enough to show that acupuncture can not only treat chronic diseases, but also have considerable curative effect on acute diseases. For example, acupuncture can be applied to acute diseases such as convulsion, cough and asthma, toothache, vomiting, diarrhea, etc. For stroke, hemiplegia, traumatic paraplegia, manic epilepsy and other difficult diseases of neuropsychiatric system, his needle application also has its unique features. For acupuncture treatment of pain-based diseases, such as headache, shoulder pain, stomachache, lumbago and leg pain, he has good prescriptions with significant treatment efficacy, such as "eight needles for headache", "eight needles for lumbago" and "ten needles". Other acupuncture methods for diseases, such as dysmenorrhea, amenorrhea, postpartum diseases, uterine prolapse and infertility in gynecology, as well as erysipelas, herpes zoster, tumor and eczema, also have good curative effects. Among them, the treatment of gastroptosis with Tianshu and Zhongwan points, and herpes zoster with Longyan points are quite unique.

The third part is Acupoint Matching, which is his personal experience. This part elaborates his principle of acupoint matching at the beginning of this chapter, mainly combining the local with the whole, focusing on adjusting the functions of viscera and Qi-blood along the meridians, and a combination of syndrome and causes, etc. At the same time, we selected 83 acupoints and 145 pairs of matching points commonly used in clinical practice, detailed his understanding in clinical practice, and clearly recorded his experience and treatment characteristics together with concise and concise articles such as point selection by dividing doors. These are all rare contents in modern acupuncture books.

In the last part, we collected 31 effective experience prescriptions that he explored in practice, and 210 commonly used dialectical prescriptions that he classified according to disease location and disease syndrome in clinical practice, which are called Collection of Prescriptions and are listed in tabular sequences for easy reference. In addition, his prescription of feeding and nourishing needles is also attached for reference.
