Zhang Zizhen (1920 - 1983), male, was born in Beijing. Mr. Zhang loved medicine since he was a child. He was admitted to Huabei Medical College at the age of 17, and his academic performance was excellent. He was taught by Wu Huanchen, a veteran of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), and he learned a lot from the teacher. In 1941, after passing the exam, he began to practice medicine in Dongsi Area of Beijing.

After the founding of the People's Republic of China, he studied modern medical knowledge at Beijing Advanced School of TCM in 1954, worked at the Second Outpatient Department of Beijing City in 1956, was transferred to Beijing Hospital of TCM in 1958, serving as Chief Physician and Associate Chief Physician, held the post of a Member of Committee of Kidney Disease Branch of Beijing Medical Association, and was identified as priority academic experiences inheritance object among the famous old doctors of TCM in Beijing in 1981.

Mr. Zhang was conscientious and meticulous in clinical work. His life was simple. He worked hard, and was strict to himself, devoting himself to his work. He carefully thought about the essence of the traditional medicine, learned from many prescriptions, and accumulated a wealth of clinical experiences. He explored and studied the treatment of nephropathy in TCM for more than 20 years, achieving a wealth of results with significant clinical effect, and making many patients with severe nephropathy recover the health, thus being respected and loved by the medical peers and patients. Mr. Zhang, as a clinical instructor, was enthusiastically imparted and unreservedly in teaching, he was appraised as an advanced worker of the hospital for many times. He had written many professional papers such as Summary of Treatment of 70 Cases of Pyelonephritis, Dialectical Law of 80 Cases of Nephrotic Patients Taking Hormones, and Dialectical Treatment of Nephritis with TCM.
