Qin Housheng

Qin Housheng (1921 - 1978), whose given name was Qinchun, and courtesy name Housheng, male, was born in Wuxi County, Jiangsu Province. Mr. Qin graduated from Huabei Medical College in 1947. He learned from Mr. Wang Fengchun, one of the four famous doctors in Beijing. He practiced medicine in Beijing and worked as a doctor in Xihe Niantang Pharmacy. He was good at the treatment of miscellaneous diseases in internal medicine, especially in the treatment of stroke.

After the founding of the People's Republic of China, he worked at the Second Outpatient Department of Beijing in 1954, and was transferred to Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) as Chief Physician in 1957. Mr. Qin was diligent and studious. He praised the experiences of Zhang Xichun and Zhang Shanlei in clinical practice. He believed that stroke is mainly due to kidney deficiency and is related to overeating. During the initial stage of treatment, the main treatment should be to clear the hollow viscera, while in the middle stage, the shellfish should be especially used to treat deficiency of yin, and in the later stage, the emphasis should be placed on recuperation. The theory guides practice, he had obtained the remarkable curative effect in the clinical treatment of stroke, receiving the patient's welcome and the colleague's praise. In his later years, Mr. Qin mainly devoted himself to the research of clinical treatment of tumor. As the founder of tumor diagnosis and treatment in our hospital, he innovated the theory of "combat poison with poison", and took the lead in clinical application of realgar, huechys and cantharidin in treating tumor. He used TCM to steam and wash, making the patients perspire, achieving the effect of detoxification. His therapy had achieved good curative effect and been recognized by domestic and foreign researches. He wrote Synovial Sarcoma Treatment Experiences and other papers, which was included in the Selected Experiences of Old TCM in Beijing.
