The Department of Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Capital Medical University, was established on March 1, 2016. It is a comprehensive diagnosis and treatment center for critical patients in our hospital, which predecessor is the Emergency Department of our hospital. The Emergency Department of our hospital was established in 1978, and the Emergency Intensive Care Unit (EICU) was established in 2001, with 4 beds. In 2008, the number of beds was expanded to 6, and it was expanded to 10 in 2013. With the requirements of the overall development planning of the hospital, the comprehensive Department of Intensive Care Unit was established in 2016 from the Emergency Department. Currently, there are 10 beds, which are divided into 6 beds in the ward of Department of Internal Medicine and 4 beds in the postoperative ward of Department of Surgery . It is mainly used to treat critical diseases in the hospital, including internal medicine, encephalopathy, tumor surgery, urinary surgery, anorectal surgery, vascular surgery, orthopedics, gynecology, dermatology, ophthalmology and otorhinolaryngology, etc. Our Department now has a large number of advanced monitoring and treatment equipment, such as multi-functional monitor, infusion workstation, noninvasive and invasive ventilator, general and MR portable ventilator, bronchofibroscope, continue blood purification, bedside ultrasound for critical diseases, early rehabilitation apparatus for upper and lower limbs, extra-corporeal membrane oxygenator (ECMO). We have certain clinical experience in organ support, severe infection treatment, clinical nutrition, internal environment disorder treatment, postoperative anesthesia recovery and critical patient transport. In addition, our Department also actively carries out bedside ultrasound technology for critical diseases, individualized analgesia and sedation, PiCCO technology, percutaneous tracheotomy technology and oxygenation therapy with extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), which greatly improves the rescue and support ability for the critical patients.The traditional Chinese medicine plays an important role in our clinic works, such as acupuncture, moxibustion, oral care of traditional Chinese medicine, colon drip of traditional Chinese medicine, etc.We have accumulated certain experience in the diagnosis and treatment for sepsis.

Under the leadership of Professor Liu Qingquan, the Department of Intensive Care Unit is not only responsible for daily critical medical works, but also undertakes a number of scientific research projects,such as the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and publishes relevant papers in core journals. The department also undertakes the clinical teaching task of Beijing University of traditional Chinese Medicine and Capital Medical University. It is an intensive care unit with medical treatment, teaching and study.

There are currently 12 doctors and 28 nurses, including 1 chief physician, 3 deputy chief physician, 6 attending physician2 postdoctoral doctors and 8 ICU certified nurses. At the same time, the Department is equipped with full-time clinical pharmacists, nutritionists and rehabilitation therapists to provide comprehensive support and treatment for critical patients in different fields. The Department attaches importance to continuing education , and has sent doctors and nurses to Peking Union Medical College Hospital, 301 Hospital, Chaoyang Hospital, Friendship Hospital and other places to further study of medical and nursing characteristics.

ICU protects life with excellent professional and technical ability, help patients and their families relieve physical and mental stress, and provide high quality and efficient medical and nursing services for patients.
