The Digestion Center (Department of Gastroenterology) of Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine Attached to Capital Medical University now is the National Digestive Disease Diagnosis and Treatment Center in North China, chairman unit of the National Union of Regional Digestive Disease Diagnosis and Treatment Center, national key clinical specialist department, State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine key discipline, key specialist department, state-level continuing education base for Digestive Diseases of National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is also the head unit of the National Digestive Disease Cooperation Group, a key specialist department of the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the only unit of "Key Research Office for Treatment of Spleen and Stomach Diseases by Regulating Liver and Spleen" of the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Beijing key specialist department for treatment of digestive diseases with integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine, Beijing characteristic diagnosis and treatment center for digestive diseases of traditional Chinese medicine, spleen and stomach diseases major of traditional Chinese medicine, the Beijing key medical major of Beijing Municipal Administration of Hospitals, the main training base and post-doctoral mobile station for doctors and postgraduates of TCM and integrated TCM and western medicine of Capital Medical University, and the training base for doctors and postgraduates of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine.
The Center is the chairman unit of the Digestive Diseases Professional Committee of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies, chairman of committee unit of the 1st-2nd sessions of the Spleen and Stomach Diseases Branch of the China Association of Chinese Medicine, chairman unit of Branch of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine for Digestive Diseases of Medical Society of Western Returned Scholars Association, chairman unit of Branch of Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine Gastroenterology of China International Exchange and Promotion Association for Medical and Healthcare, chairman unit of Spleen and Stomach Professional Committee of Beijing Association of Chinese Medicine and vice-chairman unit of National Early Gastrointestinal-Cancer Prevention and Treatment Central Alliance, etc.
Professor Zhang Shengsheng takes the position of Director and Bai Jinghua serves as the Chief Nurse. At present, there are 48 medical personnel in the department (including Li Qiangou, Wei Beihai and Zhao Ronglai, the 3 national famous traditional Chinese medicine practitioners, 3 doctoral supervisors and 8 postgraduate supervisors). It has successively taken charge of more than 50 projects at various levels of national key projects, including National Key Scientific and Technological Project, National Science and Technology Support Program, National Natural Science Foundation of China and Beijing Municipal Research and Development Program, have obtained more than 20 scientific and technological achievements, published more than 600 papers and over 30 monographs. Moreover, it also has published Chinese Spleen and Stomach Diseases as the first chief editor, which the largest book of spleen and stomach diseases since the founding of the People's Republic of China supported by the State Publishing Fund with a capacity of more than 2 million words, led the formulation of 17 kinds of Consensus Opinions of TCM Diagnosis and Treatment for Common Spleen and Stomach Diseases in China's Spleen and Stomach Diseases, and took the group lead in formulating the Guiding Principles of Clinical Research on New Drugs of Traditional Chinese Medicine for Functional Dyspepsia and the Guiding Principles of Clinical Research on New Drugs of Traditional Chinese Medicine for Chronic Constipation of the State Drug Administration.
Our center features obvious traditional Chinese medicine, modern examination equipment, and synchronous development the world medical, the number of outpatient visits has reached more than 190,000 person-times. Our department is particularly good at treating: precancerous lesions of chronic atrophic gastritis, gastroesophageal reflux disease, functional dyspepsia, irritable bowel syndrome, ulcerative colitis, cholecystitis, cholelithiasis, ascites due to cirrhosis, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, etc, with preponderant service capacity in the industry in Beijing.
Equipped with the most advanced high-definition magnifying gastroscope, magnifying colonoscope, duodenoscope, ultrasonic endoscope and capsule endoscope for all the alimentary canal and so on, the department has possessed basic conditions for common and painless gastrointestinal endoscope, nasal endoscope and large staining technique under endoscope and carried out endoscopic therapies including endoscopic esophageal variceal ligation, treatment of esophageal and gastric varices with sclerotherapy, endoscopic mucosal resection and dissection, endoscopic polypectomy, endoscopic hemostasis, endoscopic retrograde cholangio pancreatography (ERCP), duodenal papillotomy and lithotomy. Furthermore, by fully employing the gastrointestinal dynamic examination system imported from the United States, it has carried out solid-state high-resolution esophageal manometry, portable high-resolution 24-hour PH and PH monitoring, solid-state high-resolution anorectal manometry and anorectal biofeedback therapy, which laid a solid foundation for the diagnosis and treatment of functional gastrointestinal diseases.
