The Department of Cardiovascular Disease of Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Capital Medical University was established in the early days of Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, over the past 60 years, now, it is a key specialist department of cardiovascular disease of TCM of Ministry of Health, key discipline/specialist department of cardiovascular disease of National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, key discipline/specialist department of cardiovascular disease of Beijing Municipal Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, key medical major of Beijing Municipal Administration of Hospitals, core specialist department in capital city of Covering Project of Beijing National Key Specialist Departments of Traditional Chinese Medicine, "Fist" Project of innovative inheritance of Yanjing School, and responsible unit of Beijing Office of Prevention and Treatment of Cardiovascular Disease of Traditional Chinese Medicine. At present, it boasts Xu Xinru, Wei Zhizhen and Huang Lijuan three national-level famous specialist of TCM, famous physician studio of National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Xu Gongyan's famous physician Lab. In addition to professor Xu Xinru, professor Wei Zhizhen and professor Huang Lijuan, the three Famous Doctors of Chinese Medicine in the Capital, it also has Xia Jun, Jin Mei, Liu Hongxu and other famous experts in cardiovascular diseases of TCM and integrated Chinese and Western medicine with important influence in China. In the process of continuous academic inheritance and development, Department of Cardiovascular Disease has gradually formed three unique cardiovascular treatment methods, namely, treating cardiac failure by purging lung and inducing diuresis therapy, treating arrhythmia by cooling blood and clearing heat, and treating coronary heart disease and angina pectoris by tonifying qi and removing blood stasis, which are called "three methods for treating heart disease".
At present, Department of Cardiovascular Disease is composed of 12 functional units, including Consulting Room of Department of Cardiology, Consulting Room of Apprenticeship System Teaching of Famous Expert of TCM, Cardiovascular Ward, CCU Ward, Cardiac Function Room, Cardiac Catheterization Room, Cardiovascular Disease Research Room, Clinical Epidemiology Research Room, Key Discipline Laboratory, Encephalopathy-Cardiopathy Treatment Laboratory, Teaching and Research Studio, GCP Office and Experimental Drug Warehouse. It also has established an integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine diagnosis and treatment platform for cardiovascular disease with 10 traditional Chinese medicine and integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine hospitals in second and third-level counties of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.
Furthermore, the Department of Cardiovascular Disease now has three studios of famous physicians of TCM of the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, namely, Xu Xinru, Wei Zhizhen and Huang Lijuan; Xu Gongyan's famous physician research room of Beijing's Teaching and Learning Project; Xu Xinru's Famous Physician Studio, Wei Zhizhen and Huang Lijuan Consulting Rooms Of Apprenticeship System Teaching; and Beijing Famous Physician of TCM Xia Jun's Famous Physician Studio. There are 9 kinds effective preparations of the hospital such as Sanshen Tongmai Oral Liquid, Shenyuan Yiqi Huoxue Capsule, Tiaomaiyin Oral Liquid, Yiqi Shengjin Tea Bag, Xingnao Yanshou Tablet, Qingnao Pinggan Tablet, Qingxue Xiaozhi Tablet, Yiqi Shengmai Mixture and so on.
In order to strengthen the traditional Chinese medicine thought idea in clinical practice, by focusing on the predominant diseases such as precordial pain with chest discomfort (coronary heart disease), vertigo (hypertension), heart failure (cardiac failure), palpitation (arrhythmia), diabetes (diabetes mellitus), it has established and optimized the diagnosis and treatment program with its characteristics, provided special outpatient service, developed a special diagnosis and treatment system of TCM with disease-oriented-expert-special outpatient service-special treatment-special medicine, moreover, explored the featured clinical path for the predominant diseases, which has become its unique advantages in TCM characteristic diagnosis and treatment for common cardiovascular diseases. Based on the characteristic diagnosis and treatment of traditional Chinese medicine, the Department of Cardiovascular Disease has introduced and carried out a number of new modern technologies for diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases, mainly including interventional cardiovascular therapy and cardiovascular surgery. Specifically there are IVUS, OCT, FFR, PRCA, ICD, CRTD, atrial fibrillation ablation with 3-D mapping system; coronary artery bypass surgery, hybrid operation, surgery for cardiac valvular and congenital heart disease under cardiopulmonary bypass and off-cardiopulmonary bypass, which have achieved good social and economic benefits. Its annual out-patient visits can reach nearly 200,000 person-times, and the number of inpatients exceeds 1,800, among which over 1,000 patients were treated with cardiovascular intervention method.
With years development, Department of Cardiovascular Disease has formed its own characteristic advantages in clinical treatment of unstable angina pectoris, myocardial protection during perioperative period of PCI by supplementing qi and removing blood stasis, treating cardiac failure by purging lung and inducing diuresis, and treating arrhythmia by cooling blood and clearing heat. Especially in the field of integrated Chinese and Western medicine intervention heart disease, it is in the leading position in China. It has developed a comprehensive cardiology treatment center integrating Chinese and western medicine, medical education and research, as well as internal medicine and surgery.
At present, the department has undertaken a total of 25 scientific research projects, including 5 national projects, 6 provincial and ministerial projects, and 12 bureau-level projects, with a total project budget of more than 10 million yuan. In recent years, physicians in the department have published more than 20 SCI papers and over 10 treatises, have won 10 prizes in provincial and ministerial-level scientific and technological progress award and won Li Shizhen Innovation Award of China Association of Chinese Medicine in 2011, among which, Clinical and Basic Research on the Treatment of Cardiac Failure by Purging Lung and Inducing Diuresis Therapy won the third prize of Scientific and Technological Progress Award of Chinese Association of Integrative Medicine in 2018; Research on Myocardial Protection by Supplementing Qi and Removing Blood Stasis on Ischemic Heart Disease won the third prize of Beijing Science and Technology Progress Award; Clinical and Basic Research on Treatment of Tachyarrhythmia by Cooling Blood and Clearing Heat won the first prize of Science and Technology Award of the Special Committee of Cardiovascular Disease Society of Chinese Association of Integrative Medicine.
Relying on various talent training programs, the department has trained a large number of clinical comprehensive talents, many of them are members of Beijing 125 TCM Talents Project, 215 Talents Project of Beijing Municipal Bureau of Health, Beijing Ten-hundred-thousand -million Talents Project, National Excellent Clinical Talents of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Excellent Talents of Beijing, "Qingmiao" Talents of Beijing Hospitals Authority, etc. At present, it has 9 inheritors of "Inheritance Project of National Veteran Experts of Traditional Chinese Medicine" and 4 inheritors of the New Famous Physician Project. Its backbone of the main disciplines have been sent to the United States, Japan, Singapore and other places to study.
The Department of Cardiovascular Disease has established cooperative relations with clinical, teaching and scientific research institutions in many medical centers at home and abroad. With the platform of hospital and department , it actively carries out exchanges and cooperation in the professional field. It has held China Interventional Therapeutics (CIT), Forum of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, CMIT Forum of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, Science and Culture Conference of Beijing Traditional Chinese Medicine and other large academic conferences for five consecutive years. Many physicians of the department serve as chairmen, vice-chairmen and standing committee members and members of more than ten academic professional committees in the related fields of Chinese medicine and integrated traditional and Western medicine in China; have served as presidium members of many large international and domestic academic conferences on cardiovascular diseases and national academic conferences on traditional Chinese medicine and integrated traditional and Western medicine; have served as presidium members, lecturer and host of large international conferences on cardiovascular diseases such as GW-ICC, CHC, CIT, CCIF, CISC and CICI for three consecutive years. In June 2014, the Department of Cardiovascular Disease of our hospital established a long-term cooperative relationship with the Center for Interventional Cardiology of Taichung Veterans General Hospital; in July of the same year, our hospital reached a cooperation agreement with Kusatus Heart Center of Japan to establish an Cardiology Intervention Treatment Center, and invited Professor Eisho Kyo, President of the hospital, to be the special professor of our hospital.
Adhering to the clinical needs as the guide and the characteristics of traditional Chinese as the core, the department will continue to strengthen its own advantageous fields. Based on the three methods for treating heart disease, the department has developed a comprehensive heart disease center with integrated Chinese and Western medicines, clinical service, teaching and research, as well as internal medicine and surgery, established an exchange platform for clinical diagnosis and treatment, academic research and personnel training in cardiovascular diseases of traditional Chinese medicine in Beijing. Through the development of key disciplines to promote the development of the special department and continuous advancement, the department has been committed to providing cardiovascular patients with the dual protection of traditional Chinese medicine and modern medical technology.
