"The 3rd Sino-Japanese Academic Exchange Conference on Cardiovascular Disease-Demonstration of Interventional Therapy for Complex Coronary Artery Disease" was held in the Catheterization Room of Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, which is the first activity of the exchange week. The demonstrators include: Professor Eisho Kyo (Japan), CCT President of International Society of Interventional Cardiology, and President of Kusatus Heart Center, Japan; Professor Liu Hongxu, the Chairman of the Specialty Committee of Interventional Cardiology of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies, and the Director of Department of Cardiovascular Disease of Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The operation demonstration was divided into two sessions, all of which were CTO cases. One of the demonstration was particularly exciting. Professor Eisho Kyo and Professor Liu Hongxu completed the operation in three hours. The patient had been treated in a number of hospitals. Later, the patient was informed that PCI could not be performed and suggested coronary artery bypass surgery. However, soon after the surgery, the patient suffered chest tightness, pain and other symptoms again. Eventually the patient came to Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine and asked Professor Liu Hongxu for treatment. Coronary angiography of patient showed that the left anterior descending branch and the proximal segment of the first diagonal branch had multiple stenosis, and the most serious of which was 90%. Furthermore, the left circumflex branch and the right coronary artery were 100% occluded, and all the 4 bypass grafts were occluded. In the face of such a serious lesion, the two surgeons used the fastest time to develop intervention strategy. Finally, they successfully opened the lesion of the patient's blood vessels after many attempts.

"The 2nd Annual Academic Meeting of the Specialty Committee of Interventional Cardiology of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies-China Interventional Therapeutics · Forum of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine" was held in the China National Convention Center, with the participation of many well-known experts in the field of interventional cardiology from home and abroad. The conference was divided into three modules: 1. The status of integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine diagnosis and treatment of myocardial infarction; 2. The status of integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine diagnosis and treatment of myocardial injury during perioperative period of PCI; 3. Interventional treatment of stent lesions and application of new drug stent. A number of experts gave excellent reports and two experts' consensus papers were released at the conference. Professor Liu Hongxu first released the Expert Consensus on the Protection of Myocardial Injury during Perioperative Period of PCI at the conference, which attracted the attentions of the participants as soon as it was released. "Myocardial Injury during Perioperative Period of PCI" is a common complication in PCI. Studies have shown that the incidence can be as high as 30%. At present, it is become a hot and difficult issue that attracts more and more attention, and adequate studies have shown that traditional Chinese medicine has a role in this field. Based on this, the Protection of Myocardial Injury during Perioperative Period of PCI was formulated by the leading of Professor Liu Hongxu, the Chairman of the Specialty Committee of Interventional Cardiology of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies, through cooperation with many Chinese and western medicine interventional cardiology experts at home, providing references for the clinical treatment. In addition, Professor Liu Hongxu reported on the "Investigation of Acute Myocardial Infarction Reperfusion Therapy and Hospital Mortality Rate in 30 Grade III-A Hospitals of Traditional Chinese Medicine in China"; Yang Yuejin, the Director of Fuwai Hospital, reported on the "Effect and Mechanism of Dredge-collateral Medicine on Preventing and Treating Myocardial Non-reflow after Acute Myocardial Infarction and Reperfusion"; Professor Zhu Mingjun from the First Affiliated Hospital of Henan University of CM reported on the "Present Situation and Prospect of Interventional Treatment of Cardiovascular Diseases in Henan Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine"; Professor Chen Yundai from 301 Hospital of PLA reported on the "Study on Myocardial Protection of Danhong Injection in Perioperative Period of PCI"; Professor Zhao Fuhai from Xiyuan Hospital reported on the "Progress of Drug-coated Stents in Traditional Chinese Medicine"; Professor Zhang Minzhou from Guangdong Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine reported on the "Expert Consensus on Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Diagnosis and Treatment of Acute Myocardial Infarction"; Professor Wen-Lieng Lee from Taipei Veterans General Hospital reported on the "Experience Sharing of PCI Surgery for Renal Dialysis Patients in Taiwan", and many experts gave rich and splendid special reports.

"The 5th Academic Exchange Conference on Cardiovascular Diseases Across the Strait" was held in the Meeting Room on the 10th floor of the Inpatient Department of Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The exchange conference was carried out based on the RDN. RDN has been carried out in Taiwan for many years, and its clinical application is relatively mature. Professor Li Yingxiang gave a brief introduction of the development of RDN in Taiwan, and explained in detail the advantages, problems and development of RDN combined with his own clinical experience. Professor Liu Hongxu said that RDN is in the process of exploration, the further exploration is needed, and the application prospect can be expected. For a new technology, we should learn openly and accept it bravely. Meanwhile, we should treat it with rigorous attitude, respect clinical evidence, pay attention to individualized treatment, and explore the role of traditional Chinese medicine in the treatment of refractory hypertension, making the patients benefit clinically.

"The Growth of a Physician -Lecture on Growth of a Physician Delivered by Professor Lim Yean Leng" was held in Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine on March 21. As the closing ceremony of the International Cardiovascular Exchange Week, it attracted many young doctors. Professor Lim Yean Leng is an internationally renowned cardiologist as well as a medical educator, known as one of the "Pioneers of Interventional Cardiology in China". Lim Yean Leng talks about how to become a "doctor" rather than a "healer" combined his experiences. "benevolence and humility are the prerequisites for becoming a good doctor" he says. Without these conditions, the doctor was just a mediocre technician. A true doctor needs not only the knowledge and skill to prescribe auscultation, but also the ability to show love and compassion for the patient. I hope students shall be humane and treat their patients as if they were their own parents or even as if they were their own". His humorous language and penetrating analysis made the young doctors feel not only his solid clinical skills, but also his humanistic care to the doctor. Professor Lim Yean Leng concluded the conference with a poem he wrote: "Coronary artery figure shows everything, although one’s life is short, but as doctors, we should treat patients with conscience". As a special occupation, "doctor" should have a solid clinical ability, be able to feel the feelings of patients, and care for patients inner mind, taking "Kindness and Skill" as the criteria for medical practice, and becoming a doctor with "conscience".
